
Rules for Burial Space Owners
Monuments & Markers
A. Material: All monuments, markers, and cornerstones shall be constructed of granite or quartzite. Plaques attached to a monument or marker must be constructed of bronze. No wooden monuments or markers.
B. Placement of Monuments: Monuments shall be placed at the Head of a grave and mounted on a base and foundation, as specified by the cemetery.
C. Placement of Markers: Flat, single or double markers shall be placed at the foot of the grave. So called "slanting markers" shall be classified as monuments and shall be placed at the head of a grave. If a cremains burial is added to an existing burial, or with two cremains in one grave space, only one marker or monument using both names will be permitted on a single grave space. Cemetery markers must be placed by a reputable monument company that can provide a Certificate of Liability Insurance for 1,000,000. Grave owners cannot set their own stones in the cemetery. The cemetery will not accept any gravestone markers/monuments sent through any delivery/mail service. The cemetery memorials need to be set by a reputable monument company. All monuments/markers need to be on a concrete foundation. A permit will need to be sent to Mount Pleasant Cemetery sexton.
D. Placement of Cornerstones: A cornerstone shall be flush with the ground.
E. Memorial Benches: Granite memorial benches may be used if approved by the board of Association. Benches shall be set on a concrete foundation and placed on an owner's unused grave space. If this space is later used for a burial, the bench must either be removed from the cemetery or use for the marker/monument, with the consent of the Board, and/or placed on an unplotted area in the Cemetery, with the board approval, in which case, it becomes the property of the cemetery.
Plants & Planters
The owners of a lot may plant perennial shrubs and plants, as approved by the Board. Annuals shall be planted in concrete or granite planters. The number and placement of planters must be approved by the superintendent. Limit to 2 vases per stone (if space allows). All planters must be placed on a concrete stepping stone or foundation extension. Planters may be removed by the Cemetery staff if not properly filled, painted, or are cracked, broken, or generally neglected and determined to be unsightly.
The Board retains control of all trees, shrubs, plants, and flowers and retains the right of removal if such become wilted, die, or are unsightly. No member, owner, or other individual may remove trees, shrubs, or wood without written consent of the Board. Planters that are unplanted during the summer months may be removed and stored by the Cemetery. All flower urns must be purchased from the Cemetery to insure quality and uniformity. There is a limit to the number of vases/urns. This would be 2 per grave, or 2 per headstone, as long as there is room on the grave(s) and will be placed in line with the headstone by the cemetery staff.
Artificial & Other Decorations
Artificial and other decorations must be in concrete or granite urns. Artificial flowers and all other decorations including wooden crossed, painted stones, statues, shepherds hooks and any other item placed on the ground will be removed, and if in good condition stored by the cemetery for one year.
Seasonal artificial flowers and wreaths will be allowed at graves only during the following periods:
From October 15th through April 15th
Artificial other artificial flowers and wreaths shall be removed by the cemetery one week after Memorial Day. Decorations will be removed by the Cemetery staff and held for 30 days. If not reclaimed, the decorations will be discarded. In addition, the Association reserves the right to remove at any time, any artificial flowers or wreaths which, in its opinions, becomes unsightly.
Baby Section
In addition to the preceding rules, three other decorations are permitted: e.g.stuffed toys, flags, or similar items.
Columbarium Niches
A. Any final dates on the doors will be completed by the cemetery and the owners will be charged the carving fee. This is not included in the original cost unless the death date is done at the same time of the original carving of the door. The doors will not be completed by the funeral date.
Scattering Garden
A. Flowers are allowed only in the planter urn. No in-ground planting is allowed.
B. Scattering of ashes in grassy area only.
C. The cemetery reserves the right to remove all unsightly flowers and decorations.
D. No personal items should be left in the memorial garden area. If there are personal items there, the cemetery will remove and keep at the shop for 30 days and then discard them if unclaimed
